We have all a different approach of what is an intrinsic value.
When it comes to watches, I would say:
1/ Is the watch " well thought "? ( Conception: What is the idea behind the watch? )
2/ Is the watch well made? ( Finish, presentation, decoration ).
3/ Does it have some significant story / stories to tell ( Here, I mainly think about Vintage ).
4/ Character ( modern / Vintage ) / Soul ( Vintage ).
5/ The movement ( not the last or, let's say the less important ): A Duometre, a Peseux 260, a Geophysic, a VC Minute Repeater Skeleton, a Freak, a Cal 240 from PP, and so on... There is something captivating about this part of the watch.
I don't choose all my watches because of the movement ( although, for some brands, I couldn't take two watches which have the same calibre, for example, Lange, or PP ), but this is something I appreciate a lot, I pay a lot of attention to.
Which are to me ANTI INTRINSIC VALUES are:
1/ The name fo the brand... In the name of the brand, yo could make werong choices, just ot say " Hey, I have this brand, look, I'm the king! ".
2/ The Trend: Black cased watches begin to attack my nerves.
3/ Wrong Limited Editions ( Marketting Nausea ).
Best,
Nicolas.
