'Do pictures of famous people...
May 27, 2014,18:24 PM
'Do pictures of famous people sell watches?' may be a rhetorical question, in that so many brands do it that I assume that someone, somewhere, has shown reasonably well that the tactic works. (Maybe I'm wrong and it's just a great sales job by the agents of the folks who want to be paid to wear stuff.)
But even if that's so, I think Ping has asked a good question. What do we - the self-selecting suckers who fritter away our spare time obsessing about *watches*, of all things - think of the practice? Are the hobbyists - who contribute in some small way directly to the watch companies' bottom lines and shape the opinions of people who seek out the collective wisdom (if you can call it that) of the internet watchgeekery when considering their own purchases - convinced by it?
The answers seem to be mostly a pretty clear 'Not much' and 'No', respectively.
Now, I don't run a watch company. But if I did, and I somehow came across this thread, I would probably shortly thereafter be having an interesting conversation with my brand strategists and marketing folks.
So no, not a rhetorical question...
