And very interesting topic...
I strongly believe that you buy a watch for yourself, not according to others opinions.
Don't get me wrong: Others opinions and posts may allow you to discover a watch, then to test it according to your own criterias and tastes.
For example, would we discover Kari Voutilainen's watches if some of us didn't post articles, reviews on them?
We can't love what we ignore.
BUT we have to make our own decisions on our own criterias / tastes / education. Which can change with Time...
Long reflexions, interrogations may secure the purchase. After all, this is not a bad thing since the financial effort to get a new watch becomes more and more important.
There is no general rule, here, and everybody does what he wants to do, or what he is able to do...
I realized, through years, that I generally sell 4 to 5 of my personal watches, each year, but it is to upgrade them.
An example: I sold a Vintage FF ( in fact, three of them ) to upgrade them... To get a more desirable, a rarer, a more important one, and generally, a more expensive one.
BUT if I could afford the new one without selling the other, I would have kept it.
The financial aspect is ALSO very important.
On all the watches I own, there are some very strong keepers, though... Which were submitted to the challenge of time, such as my Patek 5110 which I own for more than 7 years, now, or the Sonata, the Type XX in platinum... I am still in the honeymoon time with them. A sign, a strong and evident sign of an endless love.
Best,
Nicolas
