Thanks for the thesis and I agree most of the points. Interesting analogy about watch vs woman (or man). And of course, the emotional attachment.
I have bunch of cheapy almost junk watches my father left and they will, I swear, stay with me forever. I had all of them serviced and actually wear some of them sometimes. There are many things I couldn't say to him or do with him while he was alive, let alone share something - watch and camera he apparently had passion for, to name a few. Further, I was completly useless when he fell ill because I was in NY, too far away from Tokyo. Now I am kinda happy that those watches are with me. It is like, "sorry dad, I won't let you down again." Also, I still own and use $20 Timex, which I was wearing when I first met my late wife. Wakes me up every morning
And about "the more the watch stands out, the shorter the live of it with .....". I may agree with this with my life style and taste. But if I were in business which does not require suits or tie, or didn't have to work at all, then I might not mind keeping the "standing out" watches at all. But my taste for smaller watches may make me get tired of it soon anyway
Good job, Ping. Interesting topic to think about, indeed. Thank you.
