This quote describes much more than the watch industry.
"95% of the artists are untalented dilettantes who in most cases don’t even understand what art is and that it is their job to make it. "
Your candor is really appreciated, it makes someone like me feel less alone in my candid thoughts about the industry.
I spoke to a gray market seller yesterday, major guy with major watches and major connections, and a very stable honest man, who told me the industry is as dead as he has ever seen it, even for private brokers.
See... many people will blame the recession, but I am with you Steve! There's other REAL
reasons why, deeply personal reasons why.
I have been a retailer for most of my adult life. My industry is also going through a huge change. My biggest competitor, who had 7 stores, has closed 3 of them, and I am told he's just dying.
My stores however have expanded. I believe this is because I take epic pains to put the customer first, and make the customer THE KING, always, no matter what, period.
Anyway, some of what you say is common sense, as is what I am saying.
With watches... I feel that there are some serious phonies in the pool these days. Or 'sh%t' as you said..This has always been true, though... seems like much more than before...
Very very interesting Steve, I look forward to talking with you at an upcoming GTG.
Best of luck with your new endeavors, I know you know how to succeed in life.
